SJF Mad Hatters ‘High Tea’ Party – Fundraiser Sunday 13 October 2013

The Foundation’s major fundraiser for 2013, will be a ladies Mad Hatters ‘High Tea’.

The event will be held at the Walkabout Creek Function rooms, 60 Mount Nebo Road The Gap, on Sunday 13 October 2013. Timings will be from 2 to 5pm.

The ‘High Tea’ will feature a fashion show, art auction, best hat prize, door prizes, live music and a number of prominent guests will be making an appearance. Champagne on arrival and a free gift for every guest.

Tickets are $70.00 and go on sale 13 July 2013. Tickets can be purchased via the Foundation’s web site ‘contact us’ page. Drop us a line with all your details and all ticket requests will answered as soon as possible.

Focus Forum to be held in Canberra

SJF CEO, Garry Buckland, held a meeting with Senator Sue Boyce, Senator for Queensland, at her electoral office on Friday 8th March 2013. The main issue to come from these discussions, has identified the need to hold a focus group forum in Canberra in early 2014, on the subject of Adults with Autism and ‘challenging behaviours’. SJF has commenced very early planning around this event by inviting both Professor Tony
Attwood (Vice Patron Shouldering the Foundation) and Professor Jacqueline Roberts (Professor of Autism Griffith University) to attend. This forum has the potential to address the big issues, such as, the lack of appropiate services being available for this target group ie; support, accommodation, employment and the quality of life for the vast majority of post school Adults with Autism. SJF will provide updates on the planning developments as they occur.

‘Never-the-Less Farm’ in the Mary River Valley

SJF is eagerly awaiting the State Government’s response from our submission to Government on the 3rd December 2012, with the acquisition of land within the Mary River Valley region. Early indications is the
Foundation will lease a substantial parcel of land with a strict list of KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators) and with the option to purchase within the short term (3-5 years). SJF is anticipating an answer by the
end of April 2013.

World Autism Day, 2 April

To coincide with World Autism Day on the 2 April 2013, SJF will be at the Brookside Shopping Centre from the 2 – 6 April 2013. All visitors are welcome to view our stand and our receive the latest information on our Foundation’s core project to be built called, ‘Never-the-Less Farm.’

At Bunnings, 19th December

Shouldering the Journey Foundation will be holding a sausage sizzle outside Bunnings Stafford. We are in great need of volunteers during the day to help with cooking and money handling. We expect to be very busy on the day so any volunteers are very welcome. Please contact louise@sjf.org.au if you are able to help out.

If you’re in the neighbourhood next Wednesday remember to drop by Bunnings, Stafford for a cheap and delicious lunch!
